Benjamin Graham: No Mathematical Relationship between Yield and Risk

I am traveling at the moment, so posting might be a bit less frequent than usual.

My friend Sean has been reading the 1940 edition of Security Analysis. He pointed out to me that some of Benjamin Graham’s writings are still relevant today. Here is one in particular, where you can almost see why Graham would have never gotten behind an idea like credit default swaps:

Always remember:

“An investment operation is one, which, upon thorough analysis, promises safety of principal and a satisfactory return. Operations not meeting these requirements are speculative.” – Benjamin Graham

About Me

My name is Tariq Ali, I run Street Capitalist. I recently graduated from the University of Texas at Austin. There, I stumbled onto value investing via the school library. I read everything I could and now I'm here, writing out my thoughts and investment ideas.

I have a lot of heroes when it comes to investing, it seems like every investor has some kind of niche. Some, whose books and writings have had the biggest impact on me are: Warren Buffett, Benjamin Graham, Joel Greenblatt, Seth Klarman, and George Soros.
