This reminds me of current Toyota scare. It is alleged that several dozen deaths have occured in the US in the last 10 years due to flaws in Toyota's brake system.

I ran some quick and dirty numbers based on total vehicle deaths in the US compared to Toyota's market share, and I estimate that over 40,000 people have died in Toyota crashes in the US in the last 10 years…

The media's attention is rarely proportional to the importance of an issue.
